Before Johnson Family Ventures, Adam founded and operated theWISP.net, a regional broadband provider serving rural communities around Tampico, Illinois. The work involved building and maintaining a network for people whose connectivity options were limited, with the everyday responsibility of keeping customers connected.

That experience shaped more than a service business. The need for a better outdoor equipment enclosure helped inspire IOIOBox, and the lessons of operating a local network continue to inform Uncommon Broadband in Portland.

Adam sold theWISP.net in 2026. We include it here as an important part of our family's business history, rather than a current Johnson Family Ventures operation. Its enduring contribution is the practical experience carried forward: understand the need, build a workable solution, and remain accountable to the people relying on it.
